Camilla is located in the heart of Mitchell County, just 9 miles south of Baconton and 25 miles south of Albany Georgia along the Historic Dixie Highway Scenic Byway. The traditional southwest Georgia city was named in honor of Miss Camilla Mitchell in 1858, she was the nineteen-year-old granddaughter of General Henry Mitchell for witch the county was named for in 1857.

Mitchell County is at the center of one of the most efficient irrigated agricultural production systems in the world. It sits on one of the largest aqua filters in North America. A myriad of crops and products such as peanuts, pecans, pine trees, poultry, cotton, cattle, and vegetables are grown in the rich fertile fields surrounding Camilla. Most of these products are processed in Camilla and Mitchell County thereby providing a profitable business climate.
